Fifteen Sidney residents, 10 of which are Community Association members, were among the 40 volunteers brought together by the Greater Victoria Green team to spend 3 hours pulling ivy, blackberry and holly from the Third St Beach access. Amanda and the Green Team did a super job and Cliff Halliday from Sidney Parks was a great source of information and support to the whole group. Starbucks provided coffee. Treats from Sidney Bakery kept everyone going strong. Noone who has wrestled with English ivy will be surprised that we didn’t get all the roots, but the before and after photos show that we got about 85% of the invasives cleaned up and created huge piles of ivy, etc. and 20 lbs of garbage for staff to pick up and dispose of.
